We are now one month into the curling season and our leagues are busy. You can get caught up on what’s happening here…more to come next week!
MONDAY AFTERNOON LADIES: Deb Struys says, “We currently have 22 curlers, some new and many returning including curlers who have returned to curling after a hiatus of many years. There are new friendships being built and old ones renewed. Lots of laughs and serious sweeping being had by all”.
MONDAY NIGHT MEN’S: We have a full draw with a bye team every Monday. A make up game was played last Sunday afternoon and the guys were on the ice playing (more fun than watching NFL football on the couch for sure). Games have been competitive, there have been some great shots made on the really good ice that we have this year. It is great to see new many new members on the ice as well as those returning to the game.
LEARN TO CURL: Tuesday evening 20 new curlers are learning the game under the leadership of Kate Hagen and a group of volunteers. These curlers are doing very well picking up the skills of sliding, delivering and sweeping. There is a lot to learn and this enthusiastic group is doing it!
FRIDAY AFTERNOON FUN CURLING: This is a new gathering and it is picking up momentum under the guidance of Sue Little who tells us, “The Wednesday morning women’s drop in league has changed to Friday afternoon at 1:00. We have also decided to allow this to be an open league so that we can teach some men some of our skills! Last week we had 12 curlers from which we made a game of 3 on 3 and a game of doubles. This league is open to all members and there is no need to sign up. Come on the days you can and teams are made for that day. We often rotate positions on a team throughout the game to give everyone a chance at a new position. You can see Norm Charbonneau urging Julie Clazie to hurry hard as she sweeps the rock into the house for the winning point! Great teamwork!
