2023 Tankard/Scotties - FAQ

WHAT IS THE TANKARD AND THE SCOTTIES? 

The Tankard is the annual provincial curling championship that determines the Ontario Men’s representative to The Tim Horton’s Brier, whereas The Scotties determines the Ontario Women’s representative to the Scott Tournament of Hearts. The Tankard and Scotties are staged under the auspices of CurlON and are held together for three out of the four years in the Olympic cycle.

January 23 to 29 at The Plex in Port Elgin

WHAT ARE THE TICKET PRICES? (plus HST)

Full Event - $149 Weekend package (Sat/Sun) - $80

Daily pass - $40; Sunday - $50 Single game ticket - $20, Sunday - $30

Please note: 

i) full event passes only will be available until December 15th. 

ii) Tickets within a package may be shared.

 

WHAT IS THE DRAW FORMAT? 

There will be twelve men’s and twelve women’s teams. On each side the teams will play down in a round robin.

 

WHAT IS THE GAME SCHEDULE?

Opening Ceremonies:

7pm on Monday January 23

 

First Draw: 

7:30 Monday January 23

 

Draw Times: 

9:30, 2:30 and 7:30 Tues to Sat.

 

The Special O’s Championship: 

5:50 on Saturday.

 

Women’s Final: 

10:30 Sunday 

 

Men’s final: 

3pm Sunday

 

 

IS IT LIVE STREAMED? 

All games each draw will be broadcast by CurlON through the Curling Canada platform at no cost. A link will be shown here.

 

NOTABLE TEAMS: 

Rachel Homan’s team has qualified; Team Howard, Team Epping, and Team Mike McEwen (now out of Ontario) are expected to qualify.

 

SO, WHAT IS THE HOUSE and the SHOT ROCK BAR? 

The House is the hub, party central at the Plex where you will find food, beverage, entertainment and fun. Each evening from Wednesday through Saturday the House will host Apres Curl, featuring live music and food compliments of local restaurants. The Shot Rock is the on ice bar, close to the action and available to everyone.

 

ACCOMMODATION? 

There are numerous hotels, motels and bed and breakfasts available in Saugeen Shores. A full listing may be found on the Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce web site https://www.saugeenshoreschamber.ca. Holiday Inn, Super 8, and The Beach Motel are event sponsors and each is offering special event packages.

ARE THERE ANY SPECIAL EVENTS I SHOULD BE AWARE OF?

The SPECIAL OLYMPIANS are an integral part of the Tankard. They play their provincial championship on Saturday afternoon January 28 at 5:50. It’s another level of elite curling. You won’t want to miss it!
